Statement
My artwork is based on my passion for colour. A lot of my inspiration is drawn from nature, in particular, the sky, the sun, the moon; and the hues that they create. Colours change depending on the time of day, the weather, and the seasons; and observing these daily gives me an infinite supply of visual memories from which I can work.
I use wool fibres as a 'painting' palette to create a pictorial image or a piece of 3D work. I have to use a mixture of olive oil soap solution, warm water and friction to bind and manipulate them into a piece of work. The fibres have to be worked on until they become firm and produce a form that I am wishing to create. The combination of my desired outcome and the unique way that the fibres react and change during the felting process are always a source of surprise, and especially when using other fibres such as silk, yarns or net within the process too.
When working I use both hands to produce a piece, and combined with tactile manipulation of fibres it is a very meditative way to work. I have worked professionally for the past 20 years in the healing arts, and still do presently, and I see many parallels within the healing treatment and the creative process of developing a piece of art.
